Head Position for Handstands

In this video, Carl describes the idea head position to maintain a handstand where you can get a visual cue to maintain balance and direction, without compromising the neutral head and neck positions.

Head Position for Headstands

In this video, Carl describes the idea head position to hold a headstand where the neck is aligned with the body as a system.  Once you are comfortable with your head position in this tripod/headstand hold in a globally flexed position, then it becomes easier to transition to neutral and globally extended positions that you find in straight-body headstands and handstands.

Press to Handstand Progression Pt.2

In this series Coach Carl breaks down the Press to Handstand movement with a number of progressions to help you train and practice building strength, balance, and flexibility.

In this video, Carl demonstrates the three different Press to Headstands with the Tuck Up, Straddle Up, and Pike Up variations as a progression to the Press to Handstands.  Once you have stability and control with the Press to Headstands, you can try the three variations of Press to Handstands with the band for support.

Roll to Handstand Push Up Progression Pt.3

Recently, we learned how to do a Forward Roll or Roll Out of the rings as a way to come down from a Support position on the rings, or to exit safely out of a Muscle Up attempt. In this progression series, Coach Carl will show how the roll could also be used as a skill transfer opportunity to set up into a Shoulder Stand, then a Handstand Push Up into a Handstand.

In this video, Carl demonstrates how to kip and kick up into a handstand directly from the roll, without having to pause at the bottom to hook and pull with the legs.  Carl first uses a roll-in to kick-out drill to get the feel of the kipping and following through with the kick.  Then, progressively aim higher until fully inverted and push up to handstand.  Practice catching yourself at the top with the legs in a straddle, outside wrap, and finally the inside wrap on the straps.
